Assessment of Visitors’ Preception of The University Of Ibadan, Zoological Garden

This study assessed the perception of visitors about the university of Ibadan Zoological garden in terms of satisfaction, education, research, recreation and relaxation. The data for the study were collected from online from 290 users through a Google form. Descriptive statistic such as percentage and frequency were used for the socioeconomic characteristics with 3-point Likert scale analysis. The research survey revealed that 62.8% of the respondents were females while 37.2% were males. The marital status distribution shows that the majority (60.7%) of the respondents were married, most of them were learned with secondary school to postgraduate level and were mostly office workers (55.5%). The survey showed that the zoo was visited mostly (69%) for the arrays of animals and for relaxation (31%). The majority of the respondents (86.9%) were willing to pay for the visitation. Satisfaction of the visitors for services at the zoo is very important, about 52.8% of the respondents felt the services were satisfactory while 47.2% were not satisfied with the service. Furthermore, most of the visitors gave the zoo high priority for recreation (90.4%) and biodiversity conservation (88%) (Table 3). About 51.7% strongly agreed that zoo should be for education and learning. The study on visitors perception about the Zoological garden revealed that it was a place for recreation, relaxation, research, education and biodiversity conservation. Zoological gardens are also contributing to the socioeconomic development of their immediate communities. It is therefore recommended that the service at the Zoo should be improved on by stocking the Zoo with more animals.
