Results also showed that most respondents earn between ₦40,000 – ₦63,200 monthly on furniture making. Sex distribution showed that all respondents were males, with married majority. Educational distribution showed that most respondents have secondary education. The common timber species used by furniture makers’ include Funtumia elastica, Terminalia species, Milicia excelsa, Khaya senegalensis and Gmelina arborea. Timber species were selected based on their durability, market cost, availability, pest resistance, workability, machinability, and weight. Common furniture items produced include wardrobes, tables, chairs, cupboards, TV stands, kitchen cabinets and shoe racks. The study identified major challenges facing furniture making in the study area as poor funding, timber scarcity, and the high cost of sawn timber. The study recommends the provision of funds and soft loans to furniture makers, more technical education for better timber utilization, the provision of infrastructural facilities for timber supply and management, and the establishment of more forest plantations.
