Assessment of Non-Timber Forest Products Utilized for Livelihood Supports in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Benue State, Nigeria

This study examined the role of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) in supporting livelihoods in rural villages of Ogbadibo Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State, Nigeria. Ninety 90 respondents were randomly selected from three villages and three districts for the study. Data were collected using copies of semi-structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a five-point Likert rating scale to achieve the objectives. The results revealed that majority of the respondents (88.9%) were literate. The study also found out that most of the identified NTFPs were in abundance in the area. The primary reasons for NTFPs collection were poor agricultural yields, household consumption, and insufficient land for farming. Furthermore, firewood, charcoal, fruits, and wild vegetables were the most utilized NTFPs (WMS>3.05). Home gardens and farmlands served as the main sources of NTFPs collection.
